How to Write a Fashion Blog Post That Still Earns Next Year

Most outfit posts are written for the week they go out. The ones that still earn a year later are built differently — and the difference is structure, not writing talent.

The article, written and published.

The structure that keeps working

A post that earns for one week and a post that earns for three years look almost the same on the page. The difference is that the second one is written so a stranger can find it later, having never heard of you.

  1. A title somebody types. "Three ways to style white denim this spring" gets found. "My spring haul" gets found by people already looking for you — which is a much smaller group.
  2. One section per outfit, with its own heading. Each heading is its own small entrance from search. Eight outfits is eight entrances.
  3. Every piece written out. Colour, cut, material, brand if you know it. "Cream ribbed turtleneck, black faux leather leggings, beige ankle boots" is three searches served. A photo is none.
  4. The moment in the video. Link each look to its second. The reader gets to see the outfit move, and you get the view.
  5. Affiliate links inside the section, next to the piece being described — not collected in a heap at the bottom where nobody scrolls.

What to leave out

The long personal introduction before the first outfit. Readers who came from search want the jacket; readers who came for you will read it anyway, further down. Put the first look above the fold and the story underneath it.

Doing it from a video you already made

If the outfits exist on film, writing them up from scratch is duplicated work. looklogue watches the video, detects each outfit with its pieces and colours, and writes the sections with the timestamps already attached. You then edit it in your own words and drop your links where they belong.

The looks the article is built from, with their timestamps.

How long it should take

By hand, a careful eight-outfit post is two to three hours. From an existing video with the structure already laid out, the editing is twenty minutes — and the twenty minutes go into the writing rather than into transcribing what you already know.

Try it on one of your own videos

Paste a link, see what comes out. Nothing to install, and the first look costs nothing.
